Folkest 2019 announces the great concert event of the icon of Celtic music, the Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known throughout the world Loreena Mckennitt, who returns to Italy with a new summer tour to present her album of unreleased “Lost souls“.
Six stages in our country, in addition to Florence (20/7), Milan (21/7), Macerata (24/7/), Rome (25/7), Molfetta (Bari) (26/7) and also the Castle of Udine next July 22 for Folkest 2019.
Folkest, the great festival that explores the music and cultures of the world, renews also for the next edition, the forty-first, its spirit and its mission of great container of all that music that, beyond being defined as folk, world, jazz or singer-songwriter, pure or contaminated, knows how to give voice to the cultural roots of any part of the world, aiming to become, once again, a valuable opportunity to cross the boundaries between genres.
Always divided into more than 25 squares in Friuli, up to the nearby Slovenian Istria, Folkest 2019 – scheduled between June 20 and July 8, with an interesting spring prologue – announces the star of the next edition, an international star who will be entrusted with the task of sealing the 2019 edition of Folkest.
With a new album of unreleased songs published this year, entitled Lost Souls (Quinlan Road, 2018), the world-famous Canadian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Loreena McKennitt, an icon of Celtic music, returns to Italy with a summer tour of six dates throughout our peninsula. In addition to Florence, Milan, Rome, Macerata and Bari, Monday, July 22 will be for Folkest at the Castle of Udine.

About ten years after the release of her latest album of unreleased songs, Loreena McKennitt returned in May of this year with a new work and is ready to present it around Europe, with a total of 25 concerts across ten countries including Spain, Germany and, indeed, Italy.
The singer-songwriter has Irish and Scottish origins and it was these that influenced her music, which draws inspiration from Celtic folk songs to which she adds an international touch, with a surprising result and appreciated worldwide. Loreena McKennitt’s songs tell music and stories that have inspired the artist during her travels in search of Celtic traditions in China, Mongolia, Turkey and Ireland. Her music, ranging from eclectic Celtic sound, pop, folk and world music has won over critics and audiences alike. The artist has ground important figures: 14 million albums sold with gold, platinum and multi-platinum records. Nominated twice at the Grammy Awards, she won two Juno and the Billboard International Career Award. She has performed in the most important theatres, from Carnegie Hall to the Alhambra palace in Granada in Spain, up to the performances for Queen Elizabeth II.
In anticipation of her next summer tour Loreena said: “I’m excited to return to some of the places I’ve already visited in the past years and to see people I’ve met on my previous tours, but also to perform in beautiful places I’ve never seen before. In addition, the singer-songwriter will not be alone on stage, but will be accompanied by musicians Brian Hughes (guitar, oud and Celtic bouzouki), Caroline Lavelle (cello), Hugh Marsh (violin), Dudley Philips (bass) and Robert Brian (drums).
