Pordenone is a city located in Friuli Venezia Giulia, in northeastern Italy. It is an important economic and cultural center of the region, known for its vibrant artistic life, historic architecture, and quality of life. The historic center preserves elegant Renaissance palaces, arcades and ancient churches, such as St. Mark’s Cathedral. The city is also home to the international film festival “Le Giornate del Cinema Muto”, one of the most prestigious of its kind in the world.
From a historical point of view, Pordenone has ancient origins: it was already inhabited in Roman times, although its greatest development occurred in the Middle Ages, when it became an important commercial center thanks to its strategic location along the Noncello River. It passed under various dominations, including that of the dukes of Austria and later the Republic of Venice, which influenced its architecture and culture. In the 19th century it was one of the first industrialized centers in Friuli, especially in the textile and paper industry.
