Winner of the Ethnos Generations 2025 award, San Gorgio a Cremano (NA)
Luisa Briguglio, originally from Messina, Sicily, is a multifaceted artist who blends multiple disciplines in an eclectic career between music, dance and theater, exploring various musical genres from traditional southern Italian to Latin American and Cape Verdean music. Since 2017 she has been the lead vocalist of the group PopulAlma, with which she has released two albums, Cantu Forti and Spaccaventu. In theater as an actress and assistant director, she has created shows such as Percée and Cantu e cuntu. Since 2023 she has been part of El colectivo and, in the same year, became lead vocalist of ‘Ngasa ‘Ngasa, recording the single Safari.
In October 2024 she won the Ethnos Generations Award (San Giorgio a Cremano, Naples).
Her solo musical project, which includes writing in Sicilian dialect, explores cultural and literary roots, combining tradition and innovation in music that reflects the complexity of her homeland, with departure, distance and uninterrupted dialogue with a land blessed and cursed together at its center – in continuity with the voices of her ancestors: migrants, songwriters, poets. Her writing is mainly in dialect, the language of emotions, an ancient heritage capable of flexing to the needs of the present. The Sicilian-ness that shines through his songs welcomes, but only in part, the language and styles of the folk music tradition: another Sicily, urban, a meeting of cultures, but also solitary and mystical, animates the words and the choice of sounds.
