Coming from a family of musicians, with her internationally renowned accordionist father and folk dancer mother, Lidiya Koycheva, a singer, pianist and guitarist, has always been fascinated by Roma culture. As a very young talent, Lidiya toured Europe, winning numerous piano awards, including together with her brother Angel. While in Italy to graduate with a piano degree, she felt a strong call to her roots, developing a deep love for the rich expressions of the folk of her homeland., remembering long evenings and nights together with her father and other prominent folk musicians from Bulgaria in their home. At that point the choice was made and the smell of smoke, Rakia, Gypsy rhythms, women’s voices, and parties mingled with the sound of traditional Bulgarian folk instruments.
