4 FOLKSINGER IN FRIÛL

Friuli (Italy)

Many songwriters in Friuli also engage in the art of entertaining audiences from the stage. In recent years, first at Girada and now at Folk Club da Anita, thanks to the coordination and encouragement of Lino Straulino, performing their own compositions and collaborating with others has become a significant reality in the city of Udine. Among the many participants in this experience, tonight we present four artists, each with a unique style.

  • Nicole Coceancig: A young singer-songwriter who performs original and traditional Friulian songs with various regional musicians. Nicole is one of the most expressive and inspired Friulian voices in recent years. Her repertoire is both passionate and poetic, continuously seeking a cosmopolitan tradition.
  • Claudio Banelli: He began his musical career when he was just sixteen with the harmonica. At the age of nineteen, he started studying the guitar and founded his power trio, BBF, which ranges from 60s psychedelia to 90s grunge, releasing three albums. As a solo artist, he released his third and latest album, Seahorse, in March 2023, recorded on analog tape in an 1800s house.
  • Emma Gustafson: Half Italian and half American, Emma began her music career in 2015, performing her songs across Italy and Ireland. She earned a master’s degree from Trinity College Dublin and spent much of her time there playing music on the streets, in Dublin’s ancient pubs, and along the Galway waterfront. Besides her academic and musical pursuits, she developed a passion for gardening during the lockdown. She has released three music albums and two poetry books.
  • Sergio Freschi: he embarked on many professions, and will continue to do so. He has always traveled using various means and methods, but inevitably, at some point, he returns home. He owns several Moto Guzzi motorcycles, which he never separates from, using them to explore parts of the world. He coaches soccer teams, plays music, sings, writes, cultivates, and builds. In 1995, he published the novel Una vita bruciata, followed by the short story collection Racconti del XIII anno in 2004, the motorcycle travelogue Giorni Nomadi in Russia and Mongolia in 2010, and the novel Intrigo carnico in 2012. In 2020, he released the series of seven stories Racconti Sbilenchi, and finally, in 2023, Strambate a due ruote, eleven unusual and quirky adventures that happened during his over thirty-year experience as a traveler.
